Fish Island Regeneration: Research-Led Masterplan
The Project: A self-initiated redevelopment proposal for Fish Island, Hackney Wick, delivered within a fast-paced studio environment at Oxford Brookes university. The masterplan developed included orientating the site toward the canal network, transforming the waterway into a primary "Blue Infrastructure" for the site.
The Strategy: We independently researched in order to create a group framework. Following this we divided the masterplan into individual sections which focused on aspects of our research. The strategy focused on designing a masterplan that protects creative maker-spaces while introducing high-density residential blocks. My section of the masterplan utilised the canal as a central spine for biodiversity, public use, and connectivity.
Key Skills Developed:
- High-Pressure Environments: Demonstrated professional skill set by rapidly identifying "gaps" in the framework and authoring a strategic brief within a condensed timeframe.
- Research-Led Design: Successfully synthesized complex findings from my individual research project into a functional masterplan, maintaining the design elements from the group brief despite the fast-paced nature of the project.
- Collaboration: Effectively coordinated my individual "canal-centric" pivot with the wider team, ensuring my strategic changes were integrated into the site vision.
- Project & Time Management: Ensured that we kept up with the face paced project and has regular meetings to continue with the design of our masterplans.
